The University of Manchester (UoM), University of Salford (UoS) and The Royal Northern College of Music wish to appoint a single waste management contractor for the collection and disposal / treatment of residual / general waste including the collection of a limited amount of recyclates (lot 1).
In addition there will be a separate lot (lot 2) for the collection and treatment of food waste for the University of Manchester and The Royal Northern College of Music.
The UoM has a high level target as part of the towards Manchester 2020 Strategy to reduce its carbon footprint by at least 40 % by 2020, from a 2007/8 baseline. The UoS and Royal Northern College of Music have similar targets.
Sustainable waste management is a major part of this contract as is the requirement to achieve a diversion of residual waste from disposal to landfill of a minimum of 70 % by weight. This is a minimum requirement.
